About
Most of us were taught how to make a plan.Far fewer were taught how to find our way when life changes. That’s the challenge of uncertainty. You may be leading a company, changing careers, supporting a family through change, or trying to decide what comes next. While the circumstances differ, the questions are often the same:What matters now?Which signals can I trust? How do I move forward? For more than 20 years, I’ve advised CEOs and senior executives through uncertainty, change, and high-stakes decisions, including work with BCG BrightHouse and Google. My approach comes from a much older discipline.I’m a cultural anthropologist specializing in ethnonavigation and a National Geographic Explorer. For nearly a decade, I was mentored by Pius “Mau” Piailug of Satawal, Micronesia, a master navigator widely regarded as one of the greatest navigators in Oceania of his generation.Mau did not teach me a concept. He taught me a discipline. For generations, Pacific navigators have crossed vast stretches of open ocean without modern maps or instruments. They read stars, swells, winds, birds, and currents. They recognize patterns, test assumptions, correct course, and keep moving. That’s wayfinding: a time-proven discipline for navigating uncertainty. It helps us read changing conditions, steady ourselves, make sound decisions, and move toward what matters without waiting for perfect certainty.Today, I bring this discipline to CEOs, executive teams, and organizations through private advisory work, leadership sessions, and keynote speaking.I also share it more broadly because uncertainty isn’t only a leadership problem. It’s a human one. Here, I share practical ideas on wayfinding, navigating uncertainty, mindset, self-mastery, values, and how we support one another through change. My goal is to help you think more clearly, trust yourself more deeply, and move forward with greater courage and care.Wayfinding isn’t about predicting the future. It’s about becoming better prepared to meet it.For those carrying a consequential decision, or shaping a thoughtful gathering around change, a private note is welcome. Advisory conversations are confidential.
