About
Since my humble beginnings in the East End of Glasgow I have always strived to provide myself and my family with opportunities that were light years away for me growing up. I am the founder of Ultimo Brands International, the UK’s leading lingerie brand for two decades. I helped propel Ultimo up the lingerie ladder, winning several awards along the way, and eventually sold my company to lingerie giant MAS Holdings in 2014. I've had the privilege of accepting several awards throughout my career. In 2001 I was named Best Newcomer at British Apparel Export Awards, presented by HRH Princess Anne. I’ve also been fortunate enough to be given honorary doctorates by Paisley University in 2002 and the University of Hertfordshire in 2010. HSBC handed me a lifetime achievement award in 2016. In 2001, I was invited by HRH Prince Charles to join the Board of Directors for the Prince’s Trust. I am also a trustee of the Barrowman Foundation, which supports charities and efforts that empower young people to get the best start in life and take advantage of career opportunities. I have also met HM Queen Elizabeth through my work who, in 2010, awarded me with an OBE for outstanding contribution to business. My public speaking allowed me to share the stage with political figures such as Former US President Bill Clinton and Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev in October 2005. I’ve also given speeches alongside Sylvester Stallone and Al Pacino- iconic figures of our time. I launched my bestselling autobiography - ‘My Fight to the Top’ in Spring 2015 with the aim of inspiring others. That summer, I was invited by then UK Prime Minister David Cameron to become a UK Business Tsar and conduct the Mone Review. This investigated the startup ecosystem in deprived areas of the UK, and put the necessary mechanisms in place to boost their efforts. Later on in the year, I entered the House of Lords as a lifetime peer- Baroness Michelle Mone of Mayfair OBE. I have appeared on a number of TV shows from ITV’s Good Morning Britain, daytime hit show Loose Women, Channel 5’s Jeremy Vine Show and BBC’s Newsnight. I’ve been a contestant on BBC Celebrity Masterchef, BBC Celebrity Apprentice, and tried my hand as an explorer on ITV’s 71 Degrees North. My daughter Bethany experienced a taste of my upbringing on Channel 4’s intriguing documentary series Born Famous and my current venture, a designer jewellery brand, regularly features on the shopping channel QVC, "Michelle for QVC".
