I am also a founder of Carend, a platform that aims to improve palliative care by offering high-quality training, webinars, and conferences. Additionally, I am an ambassador for two foundations that support people with life-threatening illnesses and their families: Stichting Komma and Bedside Singers Nederland. My mission is to raise awareness and attention for the emotional and human aspects of palliative care, and to make death and dying more discussable among medical professionals and the public. I am a speaker, columnist, and author of two books on this topic: Slotcouplet (The Final Verse) and Leven toevoegen aan de dagen (Adding Life to the Days), both published by Uitgeverij De Arbeiderspers. I have also received several honors and awards for my work, including the Alumnus of the Year 2019 from the University of Groningen and the Elisabeth Kubler-Ross Award for excellence in palliative care.
