Tengku Dato’ Sri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz is the Chairman of Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and President of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).. Formerly, he was the Finance Minister of Malaysia (); Investment, Trade and Industry Minister (). During his stint in the private sector, he was the Group Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director of CIMB Group Holdings Berhad, a leading ASEAN universal bank and a world leader in Islamic finance with presence in 16 countries worldwide. He was also the Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director of CIMB Bank Berhad and President Commissioner of PT Bank CIMB Niaga Tbk.With over 22 years of experience in the financial services sector, specialising in Investment Banking, Zafrul held senior positions with Maybank Investment Bank Berhad, Maybank Kim Eng Holdings, Citigroup Malaysia, Kenanga Holdings Berhad and Avenue Securities. He also has experience as an entrepreneur by setting up Tune Money Sdn Bhd, Asia’s first “no-frills” online financial service provider. Zafrul was a member of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC), representing Malaysia in promoting intra-trade and collaboration within Asia Pacific. Further, as an advocate of Malaysia’s socioeconomic development, he sat on the Board of the National Sports Council of Malaysia. He is also an Honorary Commander of the Navy Volunteer Reserve under the Royal Malaysian Navy. Zafrul graduated from the University of Bristol, United Kingdom with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Economics and Accounting and obtained a Master of Arts (MA) in Finance and Management from the University of Exeter, United Kingdom. He also holds a Fellow Chartered Banker with the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers.
